Once upon a time there was a girl called Scarlet who loved exploring and had discovered many different places without anyone else as she was an orphan. She didn’t trust anyone because Scarlet knew that her parents had not died in a car accident and this was on purpose. She seemed to believe in her heart that she may have magic because she had survived the car crash but everyone else in the car had died. The orphan house also asked her very many and very awkward questions. Scarlet went to a boarding school so she spent most of her time at school with her best friends who were the only ones who knew about her orphanage other than the headmistress of the boarding school.
It was night time and Scarlet was still awake because she thought something bothered her about the orphanage and their questions. She usually didn’t think about the orphanage. Something inside her wasn’t right.
The next morning, Scarlet told her best friend, Jemma, about her concerns. Jemma replied:
“You don’t need to worry because they are far away from here so they can’t get to you so you are safe here.”
“But I don’t feel safe at all.”
“Then maybe you should come with us to play and get rid of your problems.”
“That is a good idea. What are you playing?”
Scarlet and her friends started playing ‘Tip the Can’ where everyone hides except for one person who sits or stands next to an immobile object. The people who are hiding try to get to the object to touch it and say “Tip the Can I free myself.” but if the person who is looking for everyone gets to the object first and says “Tip The Can I see (the person’s name).” the last person who is still in the game can say “Tip The Can I free everyone.” In the next round, the person who was sitting or standing next to the object does this again unless they caught someone and the last person didn’t say “Tip the Can I free everyone.” Then the first person caught by the person sitting or standing with the object will be the next ‘tipper’ (we call the person who tries to get everyone out ‘the tipper’) for the next round. You can stop this game whenever you want.
The bell rang signalling the end of their break. She was still smiling at the end of her French lesson even though she thought it was really boring because Scarlet was still thinking back to their game Scarlet’s friends played at playtime.
She had the rest of her lessons and then went back to her common room where she started to do her homework until Summer burst into the room saying that someone had been kidnapped by a man in a black cloak who went into a van and escaped.
Summer was a popular girl in the school who had many friends and was a very kind hearted girl. Everyone believed her when she said this as she was very honest and the headmistress had called an assembly while everyone was in their pyjamas. She announced that no one was allowed to go outside as the school where taking many precautions. Teachers would patrol the corridors so no one would be able to go outside. The nearby village was out of bounds so if anyone wanted to buy something or post some letters or packages to family they couldn’t do it until after the case was closed.
There was a package on the girl’s bed saying that her mother was here to visit her but she doubted this because the parents could only come at daytime and her mother was a rich person and she was never at work. Her mother always stayed at home trying to find something to do.
The girl, Julia was found 5 days after the crisis and she told everyone there was a note to Scarlet who needed to go to a certain shop the next day to meet the leader if she wanted to save other people from being kidnapped and killed. Scarlet went to the shop but made precautions and did not drink anything so she could not get fooled into drinking a potion of sleeping draught. She managed to see enough of the leader to be able to recognise that he was a wanted person all over the world and when he approached Scarlet took a bottle from the counter and smashed it on top of the villain’s head and that made him unconscious luckily everyone noticed this and the villain’s face to be able to quickly tie him up and take all of his weapons out of his pockets so he can’t kill anyone on the spot. The police were called and the villain finally owned up where he and his crew were hiding. The boarding school was well known and they had a lot of children on the waiting to attend the school.

Thank you for sharing on The Story of Scarlet on The Writing Web. Your latest female protagonist is as quirky as those who came before her! I 🧡 the way you describe her background, as well as her relationships and reputation in the school. It has been an absolute privilege to watch you develop from a book reviewer to a fiction author in your own write (🤦🏿♀️bad joke, sorry) as the year has progressed. ✍️🏿📚 I will miss reading both types of blog post but am especially impressed to see that you have your own tales to tell! 🤩
