Once upon a time there was a girl named Ivy who was 11. She lived next to Blackwood Forest. Ivy loves to play and spend time with the forest animals. She goes to Blackwood School. Her favourite book is The Deathly Hallows from Harry Potter. Ivy likes to read mystery and fantasy books. At night, the book she has just read comes alive and she watches it with her ears and listens. It was the 24th May 2018, and she was visiting the nearby forest when she discovered that she had some unknown talent. She came by the only stump which she did not know had a secret passage way that only magical people can access. Today, when she sat on the stump, she fell down the passage. When she went down the hole vines caught her in mid air and placed her carefully on the floor. Suddenly, torches lit up. She was able to see a long winding tunnel that lead to a golden door where her mother stood. Not a surprised emotion on her face as if she was expecting Ivy to be there. Ivy asked her mother “Why are you here?” Her mother said nothing. She just motioned Ivy to open the door with her hand print. The golden door changed its’ pattern to ivy curling around it. The door lead to a stadium where many people were whispering to each other.  The only person who wasn’t sitting (apart from Ivy and Ivy’s mum) was a man as looking straight at Ivy. He put his hand up and everyone fell silent. “My name is Oak.” he said. “I can produce oak trees with my powers. Because you have found the tree stump that has a portal to the magical world you are of the age to receive your powers. The strongest of us can produce a small forest and make all the cut off trees grow back again in an instant. Students can only make a small vine appear. I believe that you will be a student as you don’t know that you have powers. We all go to regular schools but come in the afternoon for training with the masters. There are also other tribes who have powers there is wind, water, fire and nature. There are five categories in total. Let your emotions control you.”

“How can I when I don’t feel any?” replied Ivy.

Everyone gasped.

“I believe we have found our star.”

“ What are you talking about?”

“Every year we choose a star that has no feelings. We try to outsmart the other groups and try to win the golden trophy. But every year we cannot enter the competition as we don’t have a star that  does not have any feeling.”

“But I haven’t even shown you what I can do. How do you know I am your so called ‘star’ if I don’t have any feelings?”

“Then you may show us now. You are the strongest person who has magic and you may be able to help us cure the world by clearing out the plastic in ocean. We live longer as we are the ones who care for the world.”

Ivy just stood there doing nothing. Everyone in the room stared at her intently. Did they think she was their star? Did they think they should not let her in their tribe? Suddenly Ivy’s mum took her flute out of her pocket and started playing the ancient tune of the tribe. Ivy started dancing to it and vines started growing in the room, the grass woke up and came alive, flowers bloomed, trees sprouted and a garden of vegetables appeared. All of the watchers were surprised about what ancient music could do.

“Now I understand how to do magic.” Ivy said softly.

Her mum was proud of her. “She managed  to perform magic for the first time and made the meeting room a place of greenery. I will answer a few questions  for Ivy but she also needs to  answer some of my questions.” Thought Ivy’s mum, Cassie.

“Hmm. Very interesting Ivy. We haven’t seen that type of magic since the gods stopped making us already born with powers. We will train you with our oldest master and your mum can help me by answering some of my questions. Can you come back tomorrow so we can find the oldest master while you are at school?  Your best friend Scarlet also has powers but she is in he fire tribe. She has just recently discovered her powers. You may talk to her if you want to but you may also want to talk to other girls in the tribe. You may be surprised that some of your enemies are the ones you need to talk with and will have to make a deal of leaving each other in peace and work together. You will find out who she is in the morning because I have old her you will need to work together and practice.”

The next day, Ivy was surprised to see Scarlet already inside and didn’t wait for her outside. Ivy assumed that Penelope had shooed her away since she was always mean with everyone except with boys and her friends otherwise she did whatever she wanted to do and got away with everything.

“Hey Midget! I heard that you are the star for our tribe. I wonder why it wasn’t me because I am very powerful. You have to tell me how to do it ,because I want to be the star this year instead of you.”

“Well you can’t since you have feelings and I don’t.”

“Why! Why! Why! Why do you always have to be in the spotlight when I should be there?”

“Maybe you need to be kinder to other people.”

The boys who were hanging out with Penelope and her friends had overheard this so they started to go around the school asking their opinions on Penelope and in the end most of the  school said that they were mean to them except Penelope’s friends who said the opposite.

Later that day Ivy went to where the tree stump used to be for her afternoon lessons. (When Ivy was doing magic for the first time she regrew the stump to look like a normal tree.) The oldest master was waiting for her on a bench.

After a month of training was done, the competition came. All of the tribes had a star with them but Ivy was very successful and won the overall competition.

As Ivy grew older, she became an environmentalist and helped reduce the plastic in the ocean. She became very famous for her work and inspired many people and companies to reduce plastic and some even stopped using plastic.
