Foals can be cute- but DO NOT underestimate how feisty they can be! Here is a guide on how to take care of your little monster:

Teeting

This is when your foal is still drinking his mother’s milk. This period lasts for the first six months of his life (but certain breeds, such as pure-breds, will teet for longer) but the foal will try to beg his mother for more teets- cute!- for another few weeks. Do not force the foal to stop teeting because his mother will do just that by biting her foal on the neck. Don’t worry, this can’t do any damage but it just gets them to associate extra teets with a quick nip and disapproving look.

Breaking a Foal

This may sound harsh but it is just a way of saying “training them”. To do this, you must get them used to wearing a saddle, teach them to obey humans and, hardest of all, separate them from their mother. This separation is in no way cruel, quite the opposite, it makes them more independent and calm.
